PRACTICAL LIFE ACTIVITY: Introduction to Planting

Introduction to Planting

What could be more satisfying and fun for children than feeling and working with soil and plantation? Perfect spring and summer activity introducing the concept of growth. Watering it everyday to watch it's growth and marvel at nature's beautiful gifts. Introduction can be given by age: 3 (years) under an adult supervision.

Before beginning just make sure the soil is soft!! Invite the child to feel the soil in which the plants are going to be planted!

Making a hole by digging in the pot, plant the small plant in it making sure, it's roots are buried in completely and just pressing the soil from the top firmly. Here we are working with two plants so one can be planted by an adult, second one could be planted by the child.

Finishing the activity by watering it and leaving it in nice well lit place to ensure it's proper growth.

Child can be reminded to water the plants depending on the need. As the time goes by and the plants start growing, talking about it's growth will help the child to understand the world around him/her better.
